Surfers' Spot and Bohemian Bolthole

(  /  / )

Location: Bukit Peninsula

'The Bukit' as it is known, has been a magnet for surfers since the 70s, who traveled down from afar, drawn to the region's endless string of perfect Indo-waves.

While nomadic surfers still descent on these shores in droves, the Cliffside villages have now become a retreat for new-wave of bohemian traveler looking for a laid-back side to Bali. The Bukit is located in the southernmost part of the island, which includes the hotspots:

Uluwatu: For die hard surf fanatics
Bingin: Beautiful beaches and boutique hideaways
Balangan: Quiet and simple surf spot

I noticed that the international crowd that come here aren't looking for a smart city-style service; they are happy to spend their days perched on a surfboard, their evenings drinking Bintang beers at a ramshackled beach bar and their nights in a wooden Balinese bungalow on a cliff.

This, you guys, is what Bali is all about!!!!

The Bukit is defined by its stunning shoreline with craggy limestone cliffs, which towers over an azure-tinted ocean. The beaches here are what you'd imagine Bali to be; cream coloured sand sweeps around the shoreline with piercing blue waters crashing on the coast. The steep cliff access means that the beaches are quiet aside from a sprinkling of cafes and local warungs.

Don't miss a visit to this wonderful part of Bali... I might see you there ;)
